Ninon Völkers, President of the Engel & Völkers Charity e.V., spent a week in September visiting pupils at the “L’école privée Engel & Völkers” in Togo. She took the opportunity on her trip to sit down with school headmaster Robert Nyagbe and other project members including her mother Ingrid van Aalst to discuss the future prospects of the children in detail. “In around one year from now, the first children will be finishing their education at our primary school. Our plans for a secondary school are becoming more and more definite. During my stay we managed to find a plot for the new school building. This land has been provided to us by Elias Ahadzi, who originally brought the Engel & Völkers Charity’s school project to life together with my mother,” said Ninon Völkers.
In Togo the new school year begins in October. Ninon Völkers reported as follows: “Once again this year, another 20 children in Agbetiko have been lucky enough to start attending school. Now every single place in our two school buildings is occupied with 140 children attending altogether.”
Ninon Völkers also took the opportunity to find out about how the current construction activities – for a school canteen – are progressing. Work on the building is advancing well and should be complete by the end of the year.
