Engel & Völkers presents this small ‘boutique hotel’ in the Rioja Alta region in the north of Spain. This is probably Spain’s most famous wine-producing region, with wineries such the Frank Gehry-designed Marqués de Riscal, Muga, Ysios, Eguren Ugarte and Luis Cañas. The building, a mansion house built by a family from the Spanish nobility in the 17th century, is divided into three: the main part has 13 rooms, the annex has a further three, a games room and a library and the lobby which connects the two as well as housing the hotel’s cafeteria and restaurant.
The hotel’s furniture, fixtures and fittings are of great historical value. It is decorated with hand-crafted gold and silver work, with bathrooms of the very highest quality created by prestigious interior designers. A number of furniture items have been especially brought to the hotel from India.
Juliá Colomer, a renowned lighting designer, was commissioned to light the building which is strategically located on the Camino de Santiago in the extensive wine tourism region as well as being conveniently close to cities such as Bilbao, Logroño, San Sebastián, Pamplona and Vitoria. In addition to aforementioned spa with its Scottish shower and thermal baths, the hotel also holds conferences, hosting business events for blue-chip clients such as the Grupo Ferrari, Club Morgan España and leading multi-national pharmaceutical companies. It has signed agreements with the region’s leading wineries such as Muga and Marqués de Riscal, receiving numerous foreign tourists with high purchasing power. The hotel also has an expansion plan at an advanced stage which seeks to add 16 rooms for which it has already acquired the necessary licences and land.
The hotel’s premises also feature a 17th-century winery with two wine presses, an antique wooden press and eight concrete hoppers.
This is a business whose demonstrable profitability is well-documented. Similarly, it should not be overlooked that the property could also be acquired as a residence by the most demanding of clients. It’s distribution allows two separate areas to be created, for the owners and for service.
