MMC Madrid, a clear picture!

With more than 1,300 square meters, the centre has a room for the Engel & Völkers academy, office space, meeting rooms and a large lounge, from where the luxury housing purchase-sale and rental market in the Spanish capital is covered.

MMC Madrid, a clear picture! Each Metropolitan Market Centre created by the interior designer Jessica Klatten for Engel & Volkers is different and adapts to the architectural particularities of the venue.

Ms. Klatten, which was your greatest challenge when you created the Madrid MMC?

Madrid was one of our first MMC projects. Because this office space occupies the top floor of a modern building, we had to develop structural solutions before defining the interior design. The client wanted a loft-style white and open atmosphere and that caused a series of acoustic difficulties.

Outstanding minimalism, the emptiness of a spatial building and lots of transparency... What is behind the concept that you have managed to translate into architecture in a venue like this?

Amplitude, a sense of collectivism and union, transparency in communications, frankness... Our current virtual world has substantially changed markets and work methods. We wanted to create a space for about 150 young, dynamic, international efficient and very committed consultants. They are happy with the elegant and modern environment.

The so-called desk-sharing system —compared to conventional individual office desks— favours good communication and motivates sharing the success of your colleagues. Transparent structures allow the consultants to plan their daily routine with greater efficiency. Here work is more proactive, not just reactive.

What differences do you look for with the Engel & Volkers shops on the street?

A very good question that always arises when we are thinking about the Metropolitan Market Centre evolution, How to convert the classic look so distinctive of commercial buildings in Hamburg to the next generation, without losing any of the elegance? We always maintain corporate colours. However, workspaces and structures change. The future is more and more global, more modern and more flexible. Then, why not reflect this in the purist lines of spaces like these?

Is there any aspect of this MMC of which you feel especially satisfied?

In this space, one can clearly appreciate the idea of an open plan office. Here we have created a very organized and structured platform that combines skills. Other concepts like teamwork, flexibility, internationalization and the corporate network are also reflected in each of the elements forming the interior of the Madrid Metropolitan Market Centre. That way, the screen at the entrance shows the video of the latest polo event and symbolizes the union among all, managers, consultants and partners. Engel & Volkers... Your way, your world.
