The kind of atmosphere we want in autumn and winter

When we close the front door behind us in the evenings, we want to leave the cold, wet and dark outside. We long for warmth and a particularly cosy ambience. This can be achieved by a combination of autumnal and wintry colours, materials and accessories. Why not start with the outside of your house, so that you can already take a deep breath and start looking forward to the end of the working day or the weekend as you enter the garden gate.

Individuality beats standard

Only you can tell which decorative ideas will make your heart beat faster and create that cosy winter feeling. We recommend taking inspiration from magazines and décor experts and their suggestions for autumnal makeovers, but following your own personal preferences and surrounding yourself with your favourite colours and objects. One-of-a-kind creations or even unique pieces created in a handicraft session with the children which perfectly reflect your sense of life are balm for the soul.

Bring nature and the colours of autumn into your home

The choice of colours and tones is very important for the ambience. For autumn and the coming winter of 2021, earthy, soft and easily combinable shades are very much in vogue. They are a wonderful way to implement a relaxing atmosphere. Typically, warm autumn colours are inspired by nature and the colour palette of the Indian summer. In addition to its many shades of brown, it also comprises dark red, orange, aubergine and caramel.

Nature inspires not only the choice of colours, but also the choice of home textiles and decorations this year. Organic forms harmonise effortlessly with the autumn colours and the informality creates cosiness and an inviting sense of well-being.

Natural autumn decoration offers many possibilities ranging from colourful pumpkins to a lush fruit bowl filled with fresh bright red apples and oranges. And every walk enjoyed to the full in the autumn or winter sun is an invitation to bring home a new selection. Be it dark shiny chestnuts, striking branches of red rose hips or decorative golden leaves from the deciduous trees in the park. Dried flowers, by the way, keep their charm all year round, are pleasant companions even in winter and adapt to any interior style.

Even in the dark season, nature finds the strength to delight us with fresh blossoms. Look out for asters, anemones or chrysanthemums and in the approaching winter months decorate light-flooded places in your home with bulbs in decorative pots. The joyful anticipation of the first colourful amaryllis blossoms is a particular delight of the Christmas season.

Warm light and warmth evoke cosiness

The right lighting is essential for a cosy ambience. Warm light is a must, use dimmers, colour-matched lanterns and of course candlelight. As far as design is concerned, let your creativity run free throughout the home. Fairy lights are also very suitable and can also be used outdoors. There is nothing to stop you decorating your terrace or front garden with a hint of the pre-Christmas season on dark evenings already in autumn. Rustic woven baskets with pine cones or nuts can be used to complement the décor.

Nothing warms so pleasantly on a relaxed Sunday afternoon on the sofa than an oversized blanket made of fluffy wool or soft plaid. Cosy, thick cushions to lean against should also not be missing and the icing on the cake could be to add a special scent to the room. Our sense of smell plays a big part in how we feel, and you can choose essences that are relaxing or revitalising. With a little coherent redecoration, your home will also become a cosy retreat for the darker months of the year.
