Natural swimming in a natural pool

For many homeowners, a swimming pool is the ultimate indulgence. Here, too, as in the areas of living and construction, the trend is moving towards a more natural design. Instead of a conventional swimming pool, more and more homeowners are opting for a natural pool that does without pool chemicals and additives. In this article, we will introduce you to the options and variants that exist for this new form of garden design.

Natural swimming in a natural pool

Swimming pond or natural pool?

In everyday language use, the terms swimming pond, bathing pond, organic pond, organic pool and natural pool are often synonymous with an artificial, non-tiled body of water used for swimming. But if we take a closer look at how the various subtypes are structured, we can see one fundamental difference: Ponds have integrated plant zones, while pools tend to be shaped more like classic swimming pools. Thus, if plants are growing in the water, we generally refer to the water body as a swimming pond, bathing pond or organic pond. As a rule, swimming ponds have a natural design around the edges. Small organisms such as insects or frogs live in the water.

Organic pools or natural pools, on the other hand, look more like conventional swimming pools. The walls inside the pool are vertical, and the pool normally has a rectangular shape. What they all have in common is a chemical-free water filtration system that is either handled by aquatic plants or special filters. Both variants permit unspoilt natural bathing enjoyment.

The advantages of a natural pool

One decisive advantage of a natural pool, compared to a swimming pond, is the low space requirement. As it does not have a plant zone, the swimming area is twice as big. The design is also less restricted. It can be built in straight lines or have a “natural”, curved design. The absence of plants makes it is especially suitable for bathers who prefer not to share their water with tiny little creatures of all sorts. But there is more. This new trend is also gentle on the eyes and skin. As natural pools do not require chemical water purifiers such as chlorine, reddened eyes are a thing of the past. The water is pleasantly soft, while the pool can still be shaped like a traditional swimming pool. This will be much appreciated, in particular by fans of straight-line, modern design.

Natural materials such as sandstone or wood can be used to create an environment which blends in much better into any garden than a light blue tiled swimming pool. Thus, the garden design is built up around the swimming pool, the poolside lining and other accessories. However, even natural pools require some maintenance. This task is taken over by a smart little helper: A pool cleaning robot, which regularly removes any deposits that have accumulated on the walls and floor of the pool. And, of course, there are also companies that specialise in pool cleaning. This allows for stress-free bathing enjoyment.
