Description

Situated in the heart of Altea’s Old Town, a short walk from the iconic church, this exceptional historic house is among the most characterful properties in the town. Built on a 62 m² plot, it offers 232.7 m² of constructed area over four floors plus a 62 m² rooftop terrace. Its elevated position provides stunning panoramic views of the Mediterranean coastline from Calpe to Benidorm, the Old Town church, Port of Altea, downtown Altea, Altea Hills, and the Peñón de Ifach. Restaurants and cafés are nearby, the beach is a 5-minute walk down, and Alicante Airport is 60 km away with good road access. The layout includes a garage level, ground, first floor, an upper living level with master suite and studio, and a rooftop terrace. A private garage—extremely rare in Altea’s Old Town—adds significant value. The infrastructure includes an elevator which connects all five floors, a solar panel for constant warm water, an alarm system and underfloor heating throughout, beneath microcement floors and authentic antique tiles. Thick stone walls and three façades formed part of the defensive fortifications of the Castle of Altea (13th century). During renovations in 1977, original stone hinges from the ancient castle gate were discovered and preserved. Historically, the hill church’s Catholic priest lived here and maintained a Moorish-era rainwater cistern in the cellar—now the garage—which remains intact. The townhouse was fully renovated between 2008 and 2014. The west-facing entrance opens to a hall, a ocean-facing living room. A historic window, known locally as the “angel’s place,” was where villagers sought blessings. The property offers 4 bedrooms, 4 bathrooms plus a guest toilet, 2 kitchens, a studio, a fireplace, 6 balconies facing east, south, and west. Marble sinks are found throughout, while the master bedroom features a striking marble bathtub. Antique tiles, wrought iron, and traditional architectural details are carefully preserved, making this a rare historic residence in one of Costa Blanca’s most sought-after locations.

Altea is located 50 km away from Alicante city, 10km from Benidorm and 130 km from Valencia, in the North of the Alicante province on the Costa Blanca. It is set in a bay, with the Punta del Albir and the Morro de Toix at either end. The town has a municipal district called Altea la Vieja, at the foot of the Sierra de Bernia mountain range. The town of Altea is 34.43Km² and has a population of 21,813 inhabitants (INE 2017). The engine of Altea’s economy is tourism, although agriculture and fishing continue to play an important role. Altea’s crop par excellence is citrus and loquat fruit, being the first town in the Autonomous Community of Valencia to declare itself free of genetically modified products. The main features of Altea, in addition to the white pebble beach, the sea promenade and the fishing harbour, are its old quarters, with the ruins of the castle, its whitewashed houses and the magnificent church of Nuestra Señora del Consuelo, with the famous blue dome that is the image and emblem of Altea. Altea holds the title “Cultural Capital of the Autonomous Community of Valencia”, as a result of its many art galleries, foundations of famous painters, the “Casal Fester” which houses historic elements of 25 years of Moors and Christians fiestas, the Department of Fine Arts of the Miguel Hernández University and the Palau Altea. More than 6 km of coastline with cliffs alternating coves and beaches such as La Olla, Cap Negret, El Mascarat and Cap Blanc and, of course, the Altea Yacht Club.
