San Bartolomeo al Mare, which boasts one of the most beautiful promenades on the Riviera, is part of one of the most important tourist districts of the Riviera dei Fiori and of all Liguria: the Gulf of Diana. There are seven coastal and inland municipalities in the Dianese area: Diano Marina, whose name recalls the ancient cult of the goddess Diana, is the most important center and, with its hamlets, gives its name to the district. San Bartolomeo al Mare, together with Cervo, which hosts the International Chamber Music Festival, and Villa Faraldi, in the immediate hinterland, famous for the theatre festival that enlivens it during the summer, forms the other valley of the Gulf of Diana, along the Steria stream. Among the inland villages, Diano Castello, now known for its Vermentino vineyards, was the ancient administrative center with its Castrum; lastly, Diano Arentino and Diano San Pietro, with their hamlets, have since ancient times guarded the valley of the Evigno stream and are its olive-growing heart.
