In the Aegean, ancient mythology meets the rhythm of modern life. After generations of family ownership, the private Greek island of Argyronisos is now entering a new chapter defined by complete freedom. A special legacy, ready for the future.

The journey to Argyronisos really comes into its own the moment the mainland starts to fade away into the horizon, leaving only the deep blue of the Aegean to fill the view and soothe the senses. As the speedboat sets out on the 20-minute crossing from the coast of Euboea, not only do the waters calm, but so too does the spirit. Here, in the sheltered Gulf of Volos, and nestled between the northernmost tip of Euboea and the Greek mainland, time begins to move more gently. Ahead of the bow, a veritable paradise emerges – its rolling, verdant hills shimmering in the summer light. It is the silvery green of the 2,000 olive trees that likely gave the island its name: Argyronisos, the Silver Island.

This 24-hectare sanctuary has been owned by one family for generations. It is a legacy having been carefully nurtured and rooted in a deep connection to nature. The groves are cultivated according to strict organic principles. Back in ancient times, the island was known as Deucalion, named after the son of Prometheus. According to legend, humanity was reborn here after a great flood. Argyronisos invites a return to inner peace and well-being. Until the end of 2024, the island served for 13 years as an exclusive yoga retreat – a sanctuary for mindfulness and healing. This essence remains intact today. Here, one rediscovers a rhythm often lost amid the everyday pace of contemporary city life. The retreat’s infrastructure offers the ideal foundation to carry this spirit forward under new stewardship, transforming the island into a private place for soulful regeneration. The Shala, at one time a helicopter landing pad, now rises above the cliffs as a temple of silence – a spectacular setting to greet the morning with sun salutations.

Several recently renovated houses are organically spread out across the island’s gently undulating landscape, which stretches around one and a half kilometres in length. Alongside the beautiful main house with its welcoming communal spaces, the three-bedroom hilltop villa forms the heart of the estate.

From here, winding paths lead the way to the individual residences. While Masons House, set directly at the water’s edge, echoes the rhythm of the surf, Stone House, near the historic lighthouse dating back to 1899, offers complete seclusion. The lighthouse itself – a timeless landmark located at the eastern tip – has watched over the Aegean Sea for more than a century. Tucked away just alongside to the main house lies an idyllic little chapel, a place of quiet reflection that deepens the
island’s spiritual resonance.

In this way, Argyronisos stands as a testament to how true luxury today lies in independence. The island is entirely self-sufficient: An on-site solar installation powers the entire battery setup, creating a completely self-contained energy system that demonstrates how modern luxury and ecological responsibility can co-exist.
