Cajas de Luz | San Miguel de Allende

  • 4 Rooms

Description

The four bedroom home is designed by Manuel Cervantes Céspedes, a Mexico City architect whose work, Casa Estudio, Avándaro House and Brandílera House, has been featured internationally and earned an Honorable Mention at the 2024 Bienal Nacional de Arquitectura Mexicana. To our knowledge, it’s the first of his homes offered as a vacation rental. The design is built around light: six enclosed concrete volumes, each illuminated from a concealed source overhead, creating the impression that the rooms themselves are glowing. Double-height ceilings, mezzanine lofts and shaded gardens create a natural rhythm throughout the property, while the principal spaces of the main house ultimately draw the eye toward sweeping views across San Miguel. On arrival, the swimming pool immediately commands attention, cantilevering dramatically over the gardens with the city beyond. The spacious living room opens to a warm dining area overlooking San Miguel. The main house includes two bedrooms, along with a private gym, office, TV den and staff quarters. It is a home designed to feel intimate and quiet for a few guests, yet equally comfortable when entertaining. A separate two-bedroom casita occupies the lower level of the property. Reached by its own driveway or by a footpath from the main house, it gives a second couple, family or group of guests genuine privacy while remaining connected to the rest of the property. Set above Centro on Camino Real de Xichú, Cajas de Luz enjoys a perspective few homes in San Miguel can offer: the city unfolding below, its rooftops and church towers punctuating the skyline, with the Parroquia rising unmistakably at its center. Highlights: • 4 bedrooms (2 in the main house, 2 in the lower-level casita) Accommodates 8 guests • A short taxi from the Jardín, traded for privacy, quiet, and the view • Designed by Manuel Cervantes Céspedes • Honorable Mention, XVIII Bienal Nacional de Arquitectura Mexicana (2024) • Private gym, staff room, office, and TV den in the main house • Casita accessible via private driveway or footpath for an independent or connected stay • Framed views of the San Miguel de Allende skyline and Parroquia • Shaded gardens and double-height living spaces throughout This home is yours exclusively for the length of your stay, no shared spaces, no other guests, just you and the people you bring with you. Beyond the property itself, our on-the-ground team is part of what you’re booking. Need a ride from the airport, a stocked fridge before you arrive, daily housekeeping, or a private chef for one night? We arrange it. Curious about a wine tasting in the valley, a morning on horseback, a sunrise hot-air balloon flight, or a guided walk through Centro’s history? We set that up too. And if a lightbulb dies or the AC acts up, our team responds in real time, not next week. Reach out any time we are here for the small requests and the big ones. San Miguel de Allende is a working colonial town first, a postcard second and that’s exactly its charm. Founded over four centuries ago and protected as a national historic site, the city wasn’t built for convenience; it was built to last, and it shows. During your stay, don’t be surprised by church bells marking the hours, fireworks celebrating something (anything, any time of day), a parade rerouting traffic for an afternoon, or the particular music of the trash collector’s bell and the knife sharpener’s whistle making their rounds. Roosters crow. Dogs bark. Construction crews keep their own schedule. The cobblestones that make San Miguel so photogenic also make for an uneven walk — comfortable shoes are non-negotiable. Older infrastructure means water pressure, hot water, internet, or power can occasionally take an unannounced break, usually a short one. None of this is a flaw in your particular home; it’s simply how a centuries-old town breathes. If you can take the unpredictable in stride, you’ll find it’s part of what makes this place unlike anywhere else.
