Winery in Castiglione di Sicilia
€1,980,000
Description
On the northern slope of Mount Etna, in the territory of Castiglione di Sicilia, this farm of 10 hectares produces DOC wine, DOP oil and various types of fruit. The property also includes several farm buildings and a wine cellar for wine-making, complete with the necessary machinery for processing.
Situated in a quiet and very panoramic position at about 600 metres above sea level, the property enjoys a favourable climatic situation: a balanced ventilation and a temperature range between day and night which generates a microclimate particularly suitable for the production of wine, also thanks to the volcanic soil that combines perfectly with these peculiar climatic characteristics.
The vineyard of about 2,5 hectares, registered with the Etna Doc mark, guarantees an annual production of about 15,000 bottles. The prevalent variety is Nerello Mascalese, grown in part with spurred cordon and bush-training.
The vinification cellar is a historic brick building of 230 square metres with an external courtyard, recently renovated and structured on one level. The building has been preserved in its original appearance and includes areas dedicated to production, storage and finally a reception area for wine tasting.
The remaining part of the farm is dedicated to the cultivation of about 500 olive trees of the Nocellara dell'Etna and Brandofino varieties, from which a very high quality PDO oil is produced. The average annual production is about 2000 litres.
Not far from the wine cellar there are several buildings used as shelters for agricultural vehicles. The peculiarity of the farm is an ancient watchtower from the Byzantine era. The property is completed by a borehole that provides 6 litres/second of spring water.
