Located in Portugalete, an elegant fishing village founded in 1322 by Dª María Díaz de Haro, it is one of the main urban centers on the left bank of the Ría de Bilbao. This ancient medieval town, the scene of exciting knightly struggles, is located at the start of the Nervión River and is known for its ferry suspension bridge, called Bizkaia Bridge, is the first of its style built around the world and considered one of the most important industrial revolution buildings of Europe that has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. It has an old core of the town formed by narrow and steep streets that exude flavor and history, recreation and leisure area. Long walks are enjoyable to the side of the Abra connecting with Santurce and its fishing port or also crossing to the other shore with Getxo and the beaches of Sopelana and Plentzia.The center of the municipality has a large commercial area, health centers, schools etc…. This town is well served by train, metro and several bus lines, which link to Bilbao and other surrounding towns. It is located only 13 km from Bilbao and 25 mi from Loiu Airport. The road networks allow to reach Portugalete by direct motorway from any part of the peninsula or Europe.
