Ten kilometers west of Innsbruck lies Zirl, offering a wealth of opportunities. The market town encompasses the Martinswand mountain, the Ehnbach Gorge, and part of the Nordkette mountain range, a renowned hiking and skiing area. Its location on the Via Claudia Augusta ancient trade route made it an important transportation hub early on, as evidenced by the grapevine in the town's coat of arms and its mild climate. This idyllic village at the edge of the Karwendel Mountains is an ideal starting point for tours along the Karwendel High Trail, to the Neue Magdeburger Hütte mountain hut, or to the Solsteinhaus mountain hut, while the Martinswand, with its numerous climbing routes, is a popular destination for climbers. The Inn Cycle Path runs through the valley, connecting the Tyrolean Oberland region to Innsbruck. In summer, visitors can enjoy an outdoor swimming pool, a tennis court, and a miniature golf course; Seefeld, with its golf course, is just a few minutes away. Zirl also scores points in winter with its proximity to ski resorts such as Oberperfuss, Axamer Lizum, and Kühtai. Since the 17th century, Zirl has been considered the center of Tyrolean nativity scene making. Also worth seeing are the parish church of the Holy Cross with frescoes by Franz Plattner and the Fragenstein ruins, which were destroyed in the War of the Spanish Succession.
