This village, located on the slope of Mount Puig Major overlooking the Sóller Valley, is made up of narrow lanes and old stone houses. It has been receiving awards for its careful preservation since the 1980s. Its typical red roofs stand out among fragrant orange and lemon trees. It is an ideal place for cyclists and hikers. Fornalutx preserves its original layout, characterized by narrow cobbled streets and old-time façades, where Gothic and Baroque features blend. More than 1,000 years ago it was an Arab estate, and it was after the Catalan conquest in the 18th century that it began to acquire its present appearance. The church is a mix of Gothic and Baroque style, and the Town Hall preserves a 17th-century defensive tower. Cafés, restaurants, and the village bakery, with a wide range of traditional pastries, delight locals and visitors. Foreign residents have increased in recent years, but it remains a village of a few hundred inhabitants. Fornalutx is just 2 km from the even smaller village of Biniaraix, and its famous Biniaraix Gorge. This region is connected by a network of stone-paved paths, and the reward for exploring it is the impressive view available to its walkers. The nearest beach to Fornalutx is 7 km away, and Palma, the capital of Mallorca, is only a 40-minute drive away.
