Porperty description:
The winery (Artesana) was established in 2007 by an American in the Las Brujas area of the acclaimed Canelones winegrowing region, approximately 25 miles (40 kilometers) from the capital city, Montevideo.
The winery property has easy and convenient access off a major interstate highway and extends to the banks of the Las Brujas river in a panoramic setting.
The estate is approximately 80 acres (33 hectares) with 20 acres (8.5 hectares) planted to Tannat, Merlot, Zinfandel (some of the only Zin in the country), Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay and Petite Manseng.
The vineyard site was specifically chosen by expert advisors for its soil composition, excellent drainage and pH levels, northern aspect and proximity to the Las Brujas river.
The vineyard is entirely hand-farmed following meticulous protocol to produce the highest quality estate-grown fruit. Sustainable, low-input, dry farming is practiced using the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program to maintain the long-term health of the land. The vineyard
earned a coveted sustainability certificate granted by INAVI, the national vini/viticulture association. Water resources are plentiful.
A 3,500 square foot winery was constructed in 2011 complete with French and Italian winemaking equipment and French and American oak barrels. The winery interior has a large tank room containing (10) 2500L and 5000L capacity stainless steel tanks, crusher-destemmer, press, peristaltic pump, pump-over vat and refrigeration system, as well as bottling equipment.
A separate barrel-aging room contains numerous French and American oak barrels. Upstairs is a reception/office area and laboratory room. A 2-bedroom house with garage sits adjacent to the winery building.
The winery specializes in small production, handcrafted, terroir-driven Tannat, Tannat blends and Zinfandel, all of which have received international acclaim, scores and awards. The winery has highly-qualified personnel in the production of fine wines including an award-winning winemaker. Wines are distributed in the United States and Brazil and sold in wine shops and restaurants throughout Uruguay.
The winery has facilities for receiving tourists including a large
patio area with built-in BBQ and pizza oven. Gastronomy, tastings, events and workshops are offered in addition to larger events on the grounds overlooking the vineyard.
The Artesana brand has garnered numerous international accolades and distinguished awards in tastings and competitions as well as significant press, reviews and scores in the industry’s top
publications. The brand and business as well as the winery’s current wine inventory are included in the sale.

REVIEWS:
Richard Jennings – Huffington Post
“These are full-bodied, rich wines, which might well be mistaken for Napa reds in a blind tasting.”
Michael Schachner – Wine Enthusiast
“Artesana’s Tannat is dark, extracted and full in body and flavors, just right for pairing with grilled beef.”
John Mariani – Huffington Post
“Artesana’s Tannat could easily go head-to-head with even some of the famous labels of California cabernets of much higher price.”
Dave McIntyre – Washington Post
“Artesana’s Tannat-Merlot-Zinfandel is probably the best wine I’ve tasted from Uruguay.”
