Sale of large land for development on the Rambla in Colonia

Colonia del Sacramento is a city in the southwest of Uruguay, by the Río de la Plata, opposite Buenos Aires, Argentina. It is one of the oldest cities in Uruguay and the capital of the Colonia department. The Barrio Sur, Historical District of Colonia del Sacramento, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1995, is the internationally recognized departmental tourist attraction. Colonia del Sacramento has preserved its original features according to its very special colonial history. Founded in 1680 by the Portuguese Manuel Lobo, the city switched between Portuguese and Spanish rule several times until the Declaration of Independence in 1825. These events made the colonial capital a melting pot of architectural styles where Portuguese colonial-style buildings and Spanish houses stand side by side. Its houses, cobblestone streets, typical lanterns, and magical sunsets have captivated visitors since the last century. The Puerta del Campo, the Calle de los Suspiros, the lighthouse, art galleries, and other historical sites make you feel like you are walking through history brought back to life.
