Paço de Arcos or Paço d'Arcos is a locality of the parish of Oeiras and São Julião da Barra, Paço de Arcos and Caxias, in the municipality of Oeiras. On the Lisbon Coast, next to the more Atlantic beaches of the Tagus Estuary, the pleasant riverside environment of the town's picturesque streets has made them particularly attractive for the restaurant, hotel, and retail industries. Created on January 16, 2013. Resulting from the extinction of the parish with the same name, the town of Paço de Arcos is called by its inhabitants as "the most charming town in Portugal". The toponymy derives from the Palácio dos Arcos, the most important building in the town, which the people called "Paço" because King Manuel I, the Fortunate, and his daughter Maria are said to have stayed several times in this palace, to participate in hunts on the estate and to watch the departure of the caravels heading to India.
