The current parish of Estrela in Lisbon is a small parish belonging to this beautiful city, possessing truly unavoidable dynamism and cultural and religious diversity. Estrela includes the former parishes of Lapa, Prazeres, and Santos-o-Velho, stretching from the riverside to the Basilica area. It was exactly the Basilica da Estrela that gave its name to the parish and also to its surroundings, a convent built in honor of Our Lady of the Star in 1572, where today stands the Main Military Hospital.
