Engel & Völkers lists luxury estate featured in US film comedy “Bus Stop” starring Marilyn Monroe

Engel & Völkers is now brokering an exclusive estate in the midst of the Sun Valley mountains, in a sought-after resort in Blaine County located in the US state of Idaho. The asking price is 15.99 million US dollars, which is approx. 14.2 million euros. The 12-acre property consists of a main house, a separate guesthouse, and a barn for festive occasions. “The guesthouse on the property has a long history. It has served in the past as a general store, a gas station, and most notably as ‘Grace’s Diner’ in the 1956 film comedy ‘Bus Stop’ starring screen legend Marilyn Monroe. The estate is one of the highest priced properties currently up for sale in the US state of Idaho,” says Travis Jones, Real Estate Agent at Engel & Völkers Sun Valley. The region around Sun Valley is especially popular with celebrities; Bruce Willis, Ashton Kutcher, Clint Eastwood, Demi Moore and Tom Hanks are just some of the famous names who are said to have owned property here over the years.

Guesthouse with an impressive film heritage

Enjoying a secluded setting, but also in the heart of the Sun Valley ski area, the modern craftsman main house was built in 1995 and extends over two levels. The interior spans over 558 square meters, and hosts five bedrooms, 5 and ½  bathrooms, a study, and a spacious open plan living and dining area featuring warm mahogany wood accents and multiple stone fireplaces. In addition to the three+ car garage and an outdoor hot tub, the property also features several terraces with water features, a huge firepit and breathtaking panoramic views of Bald Mountain, as well as the Smokey and Boulder Mountains. Surrounded by a beautifully landscaped artificial lake, the property also boasts a fully appointed guesthouse, which served as a film set for the Marilyn Monroe movie “Bus Stop” prior to its relocation and refurbishment. The living space spans some 190 square metres overall, with two bedrooms, 2 and ½  bathrooms and an open plan kitchen/living area. From the multiple terraces outside, with seating areas and firepits, fabulous views of the surrounding mountain scenery can be enjoyed. Directly alongside the guesthouse is an additional barn building with a silo that is currently used as an event location. Spanning 295 square metres in total, the building features a magnificent dormitory, a fully fitted kitchen, a living area, 1 and ½ baths, a terrace, a conservatory, and several heated garages. “Since the outbreak of the pandemic, more and more people are being drawn to the American West. States such as Idaho, Utah and Nevada now rank among the most sought-after markets for luxury real estate. Clients here are especially attracted by the wide range of recreational activities on offer, as well as the level of privacy and the proximity to glorious nature,” says Svea Grover, Real Estate Agent at Engel & Völkers Sun Valley.
