ÖlheizungThe main monument in the neighbourhood and the one that gives it its name is the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia. Begun in 1882, it is still under construction. It is considered the masterpiece of the architect Antoni Gaudí, and the greatest exponent of Catalan modernist architecture, being the most visited monument in Spain. Avinguda Gaudí is a road that runs diagonally, breaking the grid of the Eixample, to join the temple of the Sagrada Família with the also modernist Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau, which is located in the neighbouring district of El Guinardó. Once called Avinguda del General Primo de Rivera, it was given the name Avinguda Gaudí during the Second Republic. During the Franco regime, it was given its former name again and in 1962 it was changed back to Gaudí. The avenue was inaugurated in 1927 and in 1985 a major redevelopment was carried out to turn it into a semi-pedestrianised road, limiting road traffic. Since then, it has functioned as a promenade with a large number of shops and restaurants.2 In the 1985 remodelling, some architectural elements were added to the avenue, including a sculpture by Apel-les Fenosa and, above all, six modernist lampposts, designed by Pere Falqués, dating from 1909, which were originally located in the so-called Cinc d'Oros.3 These are composed of a stone base followed by an obelisk with iron vegetative elements.
