Urban garden residence in Victoria

VICTORIA Location: The Victoria Square neighborhood lies between the areas of: Polytechnio, Vathis Square, Omonia, the Museum, Pedion tou Areos, Larissa Station, Agios Pavlos and Agios Panteleimonas. According to the prevailing version, the square was named Victoria in honor of the Queen of the United Kingdom, on the occasion of the cession to Greece of the Ionian Islands in 1864, as a gift for the accession to the Greek throne of the Queen’s nephew, the Danish prince William George. This initiative was taken in 1872 by the then Mayor of Athens, Panagis Kyriakos, who lived in the area. Later it was renamed in his honor as Kyriakos Square. The death of Queen Victoria in 1901, however, shocked Greek public opinion and led to the reinstatement of the former name, which was officially adopted in 1943. Distinctive features: Victoria is close to the center of Athens and is a neighborhood with several squares as well as hangouts that give it vibrancy. Nearby are the Athens University of Economics and Business and Pedion tou Areos, the largest public grove in Athens, which also hosts the Alsos Theater. Accessibility: The Vathis Square area is served by the metro stations Victoria, Omonia, Larissa Station, as well as many bus and trolleybus lines.
