Marchuquera, officially known as Marxuquera, is a hamlet and an extramunicipal area divided among the municipalities of Gandía, Palma de Gandía, Ador, and Alfahuir, in the La Safor region of Valencia, Spain. It has approximately 934 inhabitants spread across a small historic nucleus and various urbanizations, as well as numerous scattered houses. The majority of the rural area belongs to the municipality of Gandía. The area is characterized by an extensive plain, bounded to the north by the Mondúver massif, to the east by the Sierra Falconera, and to the west and south by the Sierra Grossa and the last foothills of Buixcarró and Vernisa. Its area covers around 750 hectares, which is equivalent to 12.21% of the municipality of Gandía, plus the enclave of Ador (3.53 km²), which forms a long strip of territory between the terms of Gandía and Palma de Gandía, along the course of the Lloret ravine. The Gandía-Simat de Valldigna road crosses Marchuquera from Gandía to La Valldigna, passing through La Drova and Bárig, via the Caracoles pass. The Barranco Verde runs along the southern plain, while the Barranco de Marchuquera, also known as the Barranco de San Nicolás or Beniopa, runs along the north. Natural features divide Marchuquera into two well-defined parts, with the Sierra Falconera in the center, precisely dividing Marchuquera Alta and Baja, divided by the Racó de Tomba. Thanks to its climate, protected by the mountains and consequently alleviated by the winds in the area, Marchuquera has historically been a suitable place for human settlement.
