Sports enthusiasts will also get their money’s worth, as Götzens offers many leisure options. Ski areas such as the Nockspitz cable car lead toward the Mutterer Alm. In winter, the area becomes the Mutterer Alm ski resort, directly accessible from Mutters and Götzens. One of the runs is the Götzens piste, one of Austria’s most beautiful forest descents. Ice skating, horse-drawn sleigh rides, and sledding trips from the Götzner Alm round out the offerings. In the village center you can still experience rural charm: some farmhouses are listed buildings. In the 13th century, Vellenberg Fortress stood in the municipal area, a significant structure that was destroyed by an earthquake in the 17th century. Remains can still be seen today. The Götzens sanatorium is now a center for medicine and physiotherapy.
