Placering: Deià, De Baleariske Øer
Deià is a sunny village on the west coast of Mallorca, a 20-minute drive from Sóller. Beautiful houses, villas and country estates in Deià offer dreamlike views of the Tramuntana range and the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. It has shops, hotels, cafés and restaurants, and a weekly market with local products and crafts. Known as “a village of artists,” this cosmopolitan enclave has attracted renowned artists for many years and has inspired major literary, musical and pictorial works. Since 1978, it has hosted the International Music Festival between June and September. This prestigious chamber-music event delights attendees with carefully selected pieces in an idyllic setting. During the festivities of its patron saint, Sant Joan, around June 24, all kinds of activities take place, blending tradition and modernity. Points of interest in Deià include the Robert Graves house-museum— the celebrated British poet and author of ‘I, Claudius’, who lived for many years in Deià and is buried in its cemetery; the Son Marroig house-museum, with the art collection and other possessions of Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, a great scholar of the Balearic Islands and protector of their natural heritage; and the Deià Archaeological Museum, with remains from local sites. More adventurous visitors can enjoy sea and mountain sports. Those seeking relaxation will go to Cala Deià, a picturesque pebble beach with a small jetty and calm turquoise waters. Nearby are wonderful viewpoints over the sea and mountains, and a varied gastronomic offering.
