The Brussels metro plans a number of changes by the end of 2019, in particular the commissioning of the new 3 line, the modernization of the facilities and an increase in the frequency of the current lines. Known as M7, the new trains have been built and are current on display at the motor show (Hall 10 at Heysel) – with modernity, comfort and ergonomics for many passengers who travel underground in the heart of our European capital into the bargain.
More modern and brighter, the future trains will provide more space for passengers. Specific, versatile areas dedicated to persons with reduced mobility and to prams and bikes have also been taken into consideration. These new metro trains are fitted with the latest safety equipment and can be adapted for future automatic driving.
This new investment of the STIB will help strengthen lines 1 and 5 to increase the frequency of service on them. For their part, lines 2 and 66 will also be reinforced, according to the public transport operator.
This development will help ease the strain significantly on the metro network in the capital where fluid mobility is the key to the current complicated situation.
