In 2019, the total amount of real estate assets held by Belgian individuals amounted to 1,570 billion euros. This figure, which can only be described as dizzying, turns out to be three times higher than that of the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of Belgium, which in the same year amounted to 473.1 billion euros.
According to studies by the National Bank of Belgium (BNB), these real estate assets belonging to Belgian individuals consisted:
- 62% of land, totaling 970 billion euros.
- 38% of buildings, totaling 600 billion euros.
According to the same studies, the overall sum of this real estate wealth exceeds that of the net financial wealth of Belgian individuals, which amounted to 1,410 billion euros by the end of 2019.
