Will the Spanish win back Gstaad?
For two years, Gstaad has been in Italian hands. Matteo Berrettini (ATP 30) and Fabio Fognini (ATP 10) triumphed at the "Wimbledon of the Alps", traditionally dominated by Spanish experts on clay. Roberto Bautista Agut (ATP 20), seeded No. 1, and five other Spaniards will compete this summer to restore the Spanish domination in the Bernese Oberland.
Matteo Berrettini, last year's winner, will be present to defend his title from 20 to 28 July 2019 at the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad. His main opponents are coming from Spain: last year's finalist Roberto Bautista Agut, routinier Fernando Verdasco (ATP 34), the talented Jaume Munar (ATP 74), the winner of Gstaad 2014 Pablo Andujar (ATP82), Roberto Carballes Baena (ATP 73) and Albert Ramos-Vinolas (ATP 101).
Henri Laaksonen back in Gstaad
Henri Laaksonen (ATP 94) will be the flag bearer for the Swiss camp. The 27-year-old young man will participate for the eighth time in the Bernese Oberland tournament and will have every chance of passing the second round for the first time. Argentine Guido Pella (ATP 22), Serbian Dusan Lajovic (ATP 31) and Portuguese João Sousa (ATP 71) are also part of the extended group of favorites.
ATP Next Gen: Corentin Moutet in Berrettini's footsteps
The ATP Next Gen, the generation of tomorrow, will also be represented at the J. Safra Sarasin Swiss Open Gstaad 2019. It is above all the appearance of the young frenchman Corentin Moutet (ATP 102) who is eagerly awaited. The 20-year-old reached the third round this year at Roland-Garros and currently occupies 8th place in the ATP Next Gen "Race To Milan". Another young contender for the title, Lorenzo Sonego (ATP 76), 24 years old and who competed so far an exceptional earth season with a quarter-final in Monte-Carlo and Marrakech, could also follow in the footsteps of his compatriot Matteo Berrettini.
