Barcelona is always actively busy. For the inhabitants, visitors, and tourists, there are a number of popular festivals throughout the summer in the capital city and its neighbouring municipalities.
The festivals in Barcelona are usually related to different neighbourhoods. There are also other bigger celebrations such as la Diada, La Mercé, and Sant Jordi, which fill the city with light and colour.
Fiestas de Gracia
With decorations in all the streets of Barcelona and a very attractive festive atmosphere, August is the ideal month to visit the neighbourhood of Gracia.
What can the visitor find at the Festa Major de Grácia? In the itinerary, there are musical concerts, exhibitions, all kinds of contests, and a specific decoration in every street. In the competition for the best decorated street, the most colourful one will be chosen.
The festivals in Gracia district are celebrated from 15th to 21st of August 2017.
Fiestas de Sants
The summer Sants Festivals are very typical in Barcelona. In a similar way to those of Gracia, they are characteristic by the contest for the best street decoration. All kinds of materials and ideas are allowed. In addition, day and night activities are organised for all ages and tastes, such as concerts and live music, workshops for children, dancing, etc.
This year, the Fiestas de Sants will be held from 19th to 26th August.
Fiesta de Sant Roc
This festival takes place in Barcelona's Gótico district. There will be traditional parades of giants and sardanas in the street. In the gastronomic aspect, the "panellets" of Sant Roc are very typical. For a drink, it is tradition to sample the region's wines from a large porrón.
The big day of the Fiesta de Sant Roc is on the 16th of August.
Fiesta Mayor in Sitges
In Barcelona's vicinity, Sitges celebrates its grand festival on 18th to 26th of August. On these days, you can find all kinds of activities for any age. From party attractions, fireworks, stalls to markets, live music, dancing for everyone, etc.
In Igualada, festivals are celebrated in honour of Sant Bartomeu, from 20th to 27th of August. There will be parades, storytelling for the little ones, castellers and correfocs and much more.
In Manresa, the fiestas begin on August 22nd. Its correfoc is known, with some well-known personages in the city, like the wooden ox, the Víbria and the medieval dragon.
The festival of Sant Félix in Vilafranca del Penedés takes place between 29th of August and 2nd of September. There will be giant figures and human towers all topped up with the traditional music of the grallers ( a high-pitched wind instrument.)
