Feria de Sant Isidre in Cardedeu
- The origins
The first edition of this fair was held in 1984, and since then this event has been developing a consolidated programme of varied activities and animated shows. The Livestock Show, which has been held since its inception, and the Gastronomic Show, are two exhibitions with recognised national and international prestige.
With agricultural and livestock origins, FICARD has more than 30 years of history. Year after year, it has become a multisectoral event, with a lot of commercial participation and an area of 40,000 square metres.
Last year (2016), the fair inaugurated a new space called, Agroecology and Proximity, where you can taste different gastronomic delights as well as participate in workshops for adults and children, round tables for talks and debates, a section with craft beers, mobile farms to get to know animals, an ecological garden called, Sensitisation, local producers' exhibition, speeches from sector specialists and an assortment of healthy and culinary offers.
- An attractive programme of activities
The Feria de Sant Isidre in Cardedeu, also known as FICARD, welcomes sectors as varied as industrial, trade, tourism and gastronomy. It is known for livestock and an interesting commercial offer, but it has also been evolving, and at present other activities are also shown at the event.
Visitors can enjoy two of the best known activities at the fair: the world-wide contest of lamb eating, the "Gincana" of cars and donkey racing, known as "burricada". In addition, there are also shows with horses, parades of the latest trends in fashion and an extensive programme of cultural and sporting events. The little ones will be surprised with giants and costumes designed with them in mind.
There will be no lack of exhibitions that include dogs, with examples of the most beautiful breeds. These animals will show us, once again, what they are capable of doing. It is also necessary to mention a tourist train, which runs through the fairgrounds, the municipality of Cardedeu and its surroundings.
- The scenery of the Fair
Once again, the Feria de Sant Isidre will be held in the natural surroundings of the Pompeu Fabra and Pinetons de Cardedeu parks.
Cardedeu is a beautiful town in the Vallés, near Granollers, very accessible from Barcelona by Mollet, or by Mataró, via the motorways that go towards the north.
The main tourist attraction of Cardedeu is the Feria de Sant Isidre, which is usually held at the end of May.
