The best Christmas markets in Barcelona

As the year comes to an end, one of the most characteristic signs of the imminent arrival of Christmas is the increase of festive decoration on the streets of the city. Barcelona experiences these dates with full intensity and just before the month of December, lights and Christmas decorations flood through the streets. One of the most beloved and popular activities practiced by the locals during this time of the year is a visit to the Christmas markets.

If the Christmas markets' presence has already been established for a long time, in recent years it has spread to the point that in the current holidays, more than 20 different markets will set up in the streets and squares of Barcelona. That implies the existence of many and varied themes and the offer of very diverse products. Not only are these markets the most appropriate for the Christmas tradition, but they also offer the latest fashion and handcrafts to the public.

Despite this diversity, tradition weighs heavily on these markets. Therefore, the most prominent markets in Barcelona, the most loved and visited by crowds are always the classics. Perhaps the best the Christmas market par excellence in Barcelona is the Santa Lucia Fair. This market has been around for a long time and has recently celebrated its 231st anniversary in its usual location in Plaza Nova, in front of the splendid cathedral. From the end of November until December 23rd, about 300 street stalls will offer a wide variety of the most typical items.

Up to December 23rd, Barcelona will be offering another incomparable Christmas picture with one hundred booths that make up the Christmas Fair of Sagrada Familia, sheltered from the impressive temple of the great Gaudí. In these stalls you can find everything you need to decorate the house and also grab something to eat while doing your shopping.

Focusing on the Reyes Magos Fiesta, the Christmas Fair in Gran Vía (Fira de Reis) will be running until January 6th through the avenue that runs between Muntaner and Rocafort streets. This market is divided into two different sections, placing the toy market in the vicinity of Plaza de Cataluña, while the craft market is located closer to Plaza de España. No less than 168 stalls are planned for this year in order for you to buy everything you need. For fans of last minute shopping, the market will remain open during the twelfth night of Christmas.
