The continuous development and growth of 22@

Barcelona's old Poblenou has been given a new lease of life that's a far cry from its industrial past. What is now called 22 @ sector is a brand new business district that has been revitalised and transformed from derelict ​​industrial buildings and factories into two hundred hectares of modern facilities and buildings.

22 @ has become a huge complex consisting of homes, offices and parks under the guidelines of modern, smart and sustainable architecture.

This new urban project not only includes a large amount of space for productive activities, but also more than 800,000 sqm for housing and social services with different characteristics. This is done on 71 per cent of land for economic activities, 18 per cent for housing and 11 per cent for equipment.

The 22 @ district has attracted large companies including the leading law firm in Spain and Portugal, Cuatrecasas. It has moved its facilities and offices to Barcelona's Avenida Diagonal, in the 22 @ district.

This new Cuatrecasas centre is destined to become an emblematic complex in Barcelona, ​​with two glass towers endowed with 10 and 17 floors, respectively. Reaching a total of 72 metres in height, it has a central atrium and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, high levels of sustainability that reduce energy consumption as well as digitisation, which eliminates paper consumption.

Another very characteristic construction of the 22 @ sector in Barcelona is the new Glòries shopping centre. Originally inaugurated in 1995, it has now been extended and transformed into a commercial centre with many shops.

This renovation project recaptures the old Olivetti building, with easy access to Gran Vía, Diagonal and Plaza de las Glòries. This is the technological section of 22 @ district.

Thanks to this reformed space, the new Glòries shopping complex is an alternative for the big brands across the busy Barcelona centre. Its open spaced structure is made of 12-metre glass windows and the premises are filled with well-known shops.

This great project at the 22 @ district has also meant important urban transformations, such as the works needed to build subways in Plaza de las Glòries. These are capable of channeling urban traffic, both in and out of the city.

This underground subway is intended to guarantee the mobility of the area, so that the traffic in Gran Vía is suburban. The objective is to convert the plaza itself into the large Canòpia Urbana park.
