Barcelona is a big city with daily hustle and bustle that gives it character. However, the city also has a large number of parks and gardens, which allow you to enjoy nature in peace.
These public parks are the ideal terrain to enjoy a family day out and become the most suitable places to take children to at any time of the year. In Barcelona's parks, playgrounds, libraries, diverse activities and many other fun-filled adventures are available for visitors to enjoy in the nature, like the following ones:
One of the best green spaces of the city is Ciutadella Park, close to Barcelona Zoo. Upon visiting this park, parents will be faced with an inexhaustible list of adventures for children along with features as well-known as the giant mammoth of stone and its monumental waterfall, adorned with fountains and dragons. The fun can start in any of the areas reserved for children's games and continue with a boat trip on the artificial lake or participating in the organised activities by the park's environmental library.

The Diagonal Mar park, if not the oldest, is one of the most original in Barcelona and the first one designed under the premises of sustainable development. It is a huge space, perfect for cycling and enjoying its seven distinct areas, but united around the theme of water. The biggest attractions in the children's area are the giant slides and the playgrounds with their original wooden figurines.
Without a doubt, Güell Park is the most famous in the city. It is a stage for films and offers diverse activities where millions of tourists take photos daily. Designed by Gaudí between 1900 and 1914, it focuses its greatest tourist interest in the "bare mountain", with the famous dragon steps, the square, the columns and the pavilions. But this park is much more than that. In fact, it has a large forest with multiple trees of all kinds and a diverse number of birds. In addition, it has many picnic areas and four children's playgrounds designed for different ages.
The Grec Gardens are famous for summer festival activities, which are celebrated in the Greek-style outdoor amphitheatre, built in this old quarry in 1929. But it deserves to be visited in any other occasion as a park for its views of the city, its impressive gardens that are full of roses of multiple varieties or its trees as shown in the local catalogue, like its imposing pine tree.
