The Santa Llúcia Fair in Barcelona

The Santa Llúcia Fair in Barcelona is a market dedicated to Nativity scenes and Christmas traditions. It is one of the most traditional and oldest fairs as it expresses itself through its products and festive spirit. You can truly see the charm of this market through each of its stalls.

The origins of Santa Llúcia Fair

This well-known Barcelona fair started with the Santa Lucía celebration, on December 13th. But it has since evolved, and today, it is a pre-Christmas market, which extends over three weeks.

The oldest references are found in 1786, where there were records of stalls found next to the cathedral as The parishioners who left the religious ceremonies acquired figures for the Bethlehem Gate.

In the years and centuries that have passed, there were more stalls added including children's clothing, food, etc.

What can you find at the Santa Llúcia Fair?

Its more than 300 stalls can be classified among the places where you can find many products that are related to Christmas and other themes.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a wide variety of craft items to buy as gifts or as decorative designs for their homes.

The positions are grouped into four sections:

- The first part offers figures from Nativity scenes and other typical Christmas decorations.

- The second part includes a series of stalls that offer natural and artificial trees, moss, eucalyptus branches, cork materials and all kinds of plants.

- The craft section has a wide variety of handicraft products and accessories, such as clothing, jewelry, souvenirs, and decoration items, etc.

- In the musical section you can find traditional Christmas music instruments such as tambourines and zambombas.

During the days at the Santa Llúcia Fair, there are different shows and activities related to the Christmas tradition, such as the Passacalle de la Carssa de Nadal, various musical performances, folk dancing, etc.

If the visitor has enough time to spare, it is advisable to visit the fair during the day and night. This way you can enjoy all the stalls and their wonderful surroundings at different times of the day.
