Despite the low temperatures in January, you can still enjoy many activities in Barcelona. Starting on the first day of the year and the winter sales, all this and much more awaits you.
The first day of the year
January 1st is one of the great holidays in the city of Barcelona. The shops remain closed, with the exception of the mall, Maremagnum, which usually opens its doors every day of the year.
If you are going to eat out it is advisable to book well in advance. In Barcelona it is customary to celebrate the first day of the year by eating with the family. If we get too close to that date we will not find room in the best restaurants in the city.
Another great option is to attend a new year's concert. There are many in Barcelona, and in some cases they are organised a few days before.
5th of January, night of kings
The horse rides mark the evening of the 5th day in January. Every neighbourhood in Barcelona has its own cavalcade, but it is worth seeing the official cavalcade of the city. Here, the authorities of Barcelona welcome their majesties and the three wise men, who arrive to the city by boat.
After arriving, the wizards of Oriente travel the main streets of Barcelona with lavish baskets that are full of light, colour, joy and gifts.
The little ones will enjoy a show full of hope and expectations in the form of a gift.
It is a festive day in Barcelona and the shops, just like 1st January, will be closed, except the Maremagnum. Tourist attractions and museums may also be closed. To visit Barcelona on that day it is best to find out in advance.
The sales arrive
On January 7th the sales arrive in Barcelona. They usually go on for two months. Visitors who are in the city during these dates can take advantage of significant discounts.
Although the sales depend on the shop, the brand, and even the trade, discounts of 30 per cent and even 50 per cent can be found. As the sales season approaches, there are many products that cost even less. For example, to find your desired size in clothing, better buy at the beginning of the year to benefit from a good discount.
On January 17th, the Three Tombs is celebrated in Barcelona. San Antoni, patron of animals, is also celebrated on that day.
There are many festive events, gastronomic offers, concerts and different traditions throughout the week from 17th January.
