With a population of 70.000, Estepona is a stunning place to live or to visit. Protected by the Sierra Bermeja mountain, the town enjoys a microclimate with more than 325 days of sunshine a year. The municipality has more than 21 kilometres of beautiful sandy beaches, beaches that are much quieter than those of other towns on the Costa del Sol, even in high season. The area is also characterised by beautiful river valleys and hills between the mountains and the coast.

Estepona Old Town

- Estepona Old Town

The old town stretches from the Avenida de Juan Carlos I in the west to the Avenida de Andalucía in the north and east. The Avenida España, one of the main avenues, runs parallel to the Rada beach, the largest in the town. This area is nowadays one of the liveliest and most appreciated areas for its traditional Costa del Sol style.

The old town has retained its charm and authenticity, despite the modernisation that has taken place in recent years. Much of the central area has been rebuilt and transformed into pedestrian zone. Partly as a result of this conversion, the squares and historic streets are lined with flowers and trees. There is also a wide and rich gastronomic offer and exploring the centre of Estepona will always lead you to tapas and to enjoy every corner.

The oldest part of the old town is Barrio de la Villa, where the remains of the Castillo de San Luis, the Moorish tower at Plaza del Reloj and the Casa de los Algibes (now the archaeological museum of the town) can be seen. Recent additions to the list of places of interest in Estepona include the 25 enormous murals that can be admired on the sides of the buildings around the city. These murals form a poetry on tiled plaques throughout the center of the old town.

Since the beginning of the last decade, the Costa del Sol Garden project has been renovating dozens of paths and squares in the old town. In the process of this renovation, residents had the opportunity to choose how they wanted to rearrange their streets, in terms of planters and plants.

Much of the old town is pedestrianised, allowing tourists and locals alike to enjoy a leisurely stroll through traffic-free streets surrounded by traditional white houses and lined with small shops, tapas bars and other restaurants serving both national and international cuisine.

- Estepona Port

Approximately 1.5 kilometres east of Estepona's old town and between the town's two most famous beaches lies Estepona's Marina and Port.

With 447 moorings for boats up to 35 metres long, the port is also home to a multitude of bars, cafes, restaurants and various clubs, making it a focal point of the town and a perfect setting for nightlife. Every Sunday morning throughout the year, the marina also hosts a street market which is very popular with locals and tourists alike.
