"S'Almunia" and "Calo des Moró" - two single beaches and one of Mallorca's last paradises.
You have to walk for 200 metres, going down the steep stairs, and turn left to reach this beautiful piece of coast "S'Almunia". Surrounded by mighty rock formations, the bay boasts azure blue, crystal clear waters and a miniscule beach ideal for relaxing, sunbathing and snorkeling.
A sign-posted hiking trail leads walkers to asteep cliff top position, from where the views over the Calo des Moro are simply breathtaking. Turquoise waters line a pristine and white sandy beach against a backdrop of the dark green of pine forests and asphalt coloured rocks that shelter this bay. It's a short walk but to get down to the sea you need to be agile, as the descent is a little precarious. There are no stairs, just outcrops of sandy rock.
But many people don’t know that the paths to the bays are located on the private grounds of Maren and Hans-Peter Oehm, a Cologne citizen who has been running an office for architecture and interior architecture for over 20 years in Santanyi. This family gives the visitors access to their property, to allow you a unique bathing experience. Unfortunately, the family has struggled hard with the pollution around the visitors, as many throw their garbage carelessly in the nature.
To protect the environment and nature of that untouched landscape, there was established in May 2014 a foundation called
„Fundació Amics d‘Es Caló des Moro – S‘Almonia“ by the owners Maren and Hans-Peter Oehm. The foundation already has hired an employee to dispose of the garbage and thus protect the plants. They worked hard to clear the rubbish that had been left at this 40,000 m² natural paradise and plant 2,000 indigenous plants. The result of this love and care is a beautiful, clean cala with crystalline waters in a beautiful setting. Many animals and birds have returned here to establish a home.
To solve the problem of parking of the last summer, the access is blocked since May 2017 – except for residents or people who are or staying in a house nearby. The municipality has financed a bus connection from Santanyi to these beaches and the village Cala Llombards. The bus runs hourly from Santanyi.
The Foundation is looking forward to any financial support for their hard work in the form of a donation in order to continue this wonderful natural paradise and to provide visitors with this wonderful experience.
Many thanks!
