Monteporreiro

Monteporreiro is a neighbourhood located in the northern part of the municipality of Pontevedra. It is a relatively small urbanized development along the south banks of the Lérez river. 

The original chalets built in the 70s still exist, while the main residential area expanded into modern buildings installed with huge glass windows, overlooking the river valleys.

The river has enhanced the countryside lifestyle of the people in Monteporreiro. Its banks are carefully maintained and protected by the local government. The park Paseo fluvial do Río Lérez (River promenade of the Lérez River), is a wooded park along the river with lush natural vegetation, clean waters, and a diverse wildlife. 

The grassy river banks have benches and tables perfect for family picnics, or a resting spot after a walk or bike ride along the park’s hiking trails. The Mirador De Monteporreiro (Monteporreiro Lookout) is another park, with an elevated observation deck looking over the picturesque river valleys and hills.

Though the location of Monteporreiro is on the outskirts of the city, most modern-day conveniences are also found here. The residents go to Supermercados Froiz, a huge supermarket that sells everything from dry goods to fresh produce. 

In case of emergencies, the Centro de Saúde de Monteporreiro (Monteporreiro Health Center), a public medical center is located right next to the residential developments. Schools, churches, brand name shops, bars, and restaurants are also found here.

The residents of Monteporreiro have their theater, the Migallas Teatro (Migallas Theater) which features seasonal plays in both Galician and English versions. The cultural centers of Centro Cultural Monteporreiro (Monteporreiro Cultural Center), and Sociedade Cultural e Deportiva de Mourente (Cultural and Sports Society of Mourente) regularly hold Zumba and dance sessions and other cultural events.

The sporting facilities available in the area are the soccer and rugby field in Campo Municipal De Fútbol E Rugby De Monteporreiro (Monteporreiro Municipal Soccer And Rugby Field), and a padel court in SPC Pontevedra.
