Introduce new life

Easter table decorations don’t come more fresh, personal or customised that a homegrown grass or floral centrepiece. Place a waterproof layer inside a white or pastel pottery dish, then add soil and grass seed and wildflower seed mix. Alternatively, buy some wheat grass or pansies from your local nursery. You can also add extra dyed eggs or Easter figures for added colour.

Create formal collars

However the guests turn out, your napkins will always look impressive with a smart corsage collar. To make them, gather little bunches of flowers and herbs and secure their stems with ribbon or foil. Then take a seven-inch strip of colourful craft paper, cut two slits about an inch from each end and slide the corsage through the slits to hold everything in place.

Engage with the edible

Surprise your guests with beautifully crafted Easter table decorations that can be eaten as a tasty treat, too. Meringue wreaths are a great example. Easily formed into elegant circles to house table elements, they can also form a bed for sweet breakfast treats like berries or small tarts and pastries. Moulding chocolate eggs, bowls or flower pots to label place settings can create the same delicious effect.

Keep it seasonal and simple

Painted eggs aren’t just essential Easter table decorations because they’re traditional, they’re beautifully versatile and, if you use food dyes to refine their look, they fit with the edible theme too. Displaying dyed eggs in an elegant glass bowl or vase is a simple way to establish a colour palette, while bolder stencils and painted designs can make centrepieces and place settings pop.

Cook colourful Easter cupcakes

They might not be traditional but when it comes to Easter table decorations, Easter cupcakes make for a stylish, on-trend pièce de résistance. A relatively simple recipe can be quickly customised to fit your specific theme.

To bake 12 Easter cupcakes:

1. Line a muffin tray with 12 paper cases.
2. Preheat your oven to 180C/350F/Gas mark 4.
3. Mix 125g of butter and 125g of caster sugar until light and creamy.
4. In a separate bowl, beat 2 eggs together with 1 tsp of vanilla extract.
5. Mix the two together, adding a little flour if it starts to curdle.
6. Fold in 125g of self-raising flour. Take your time to trap the air that makes them light and fluffy.
7. Spoon the mixture into the cases.
8. Bake for 10-15 minutes.

The beauty of this recipe is it makes a simple, elegant sponge you can adapt with tailored chocolate icing or carrot crème. Top with speckled miniature chocolate eggs for an artistic seasonal flourish.
