Engel & Völkers' strong growth in Spain, Portugal and Andorra has made the Iberian Peninsula a strategic region for the German real estate company. After reaching very similar business levels in the DACH area (Germany, Austria and Switzerland), the company has created a new management position to manage the Spanish, Portuguese and Andorran markets from the central offices that Engel & Völkers has in Barcelona.
Juan-Galo Macià will be the new General Manager of Engel & Völkers for Spain, Portugal and Andorra. Until now he was the General Manager of the Metropolitan Market Centre (MMC) of Barcelona, a new business model that has been implemented with great success since its creation in August 2012 and where it has managed to intermediate sales worth more than 260 million Euros during the last four years.
Macià will be responsible for managing the growth of the 76 franchises that the real estate company has in the three countries and the Spanish MMCs -Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia-, with more than 1,000 real estate agents, targeting a sustained growth of 15 annual franchises for The next few years before reaching a total of 150 in Spain.
Appointing this director will mark the end of division between the MMCs and the franchises of the leading German real estate company in the intermediation of luxury properties in the world. From 2017 all the projects will be jointly managed under the responsibility of Juan-Galo Macià, who will report directly to Sven Odia, the co-president of Engel & Völkers together with the founder, Christian Völkers.
This reorganisation will allow better control of the franchisees with the objective of increasing sales and the market share of the company in the real estate sector.
The take-off of the real estate sector in Spain together with the company's expansion plans allow Engel & Völkers to have greater growth prospects for the coming years, not forgetting the unstable state of some non-EU countries and the European investors who are turning to the Spanish market for investment.
Macià has a degree in Business Administration, Marketing and Public Relations from the ESERP Business School. He has a Master's Degree in Real Estate Consulting at the University of Barcelona and another in Commercial and Marketing Management at ISM-ESIC. Prior to joining Engel & Völkers in 2012, he held managerial positions working for the American company, Citibank, where he acquired extensive experience in consumer sales.
