Tenerife, one of the top 5 best cities in the world to live in

The Canarian archipelago boasts climatic and social conditions that make it one of the most recommended tourist destinations in Spain, no matter which time of the year it is visited. The largest city in the Canary Islands is Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a port city with a small population. Thanks to its fiery atmosphere that's felt in the streets and the great amenities on offer, it is no wonder that the British newspaper, The Guardian, has placed the city of Tenerife among the five best in the world to live in.

But what is it that makes Santa Cruz de Tenerife such a special city?

First of all, we have already menw the exceptional geographical characteristics that make the Canaries one of those lucky regions on the planet. Therefore, Tenerife shares this privileged framework and combines it with a unique urban environment in the archipelago. It is the largest city in the Canary islands, with just over 200,000 inhabitants and rising up to around 400,000 if we include the metropolitan area as a whole.

In Tenerife, you can find many things to do. On the cultural level, the architecture of Tenerife is one of the most unique in the country thanks to the many artists' and important people's influences on this city. The Basilica of Our Lady of Candelaria (Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria) and the Auditorium of Tenerife are the best examples in this regard. A more enriching experience would be the award-winning Museum of Nature and Man. The maritime settings of Puerto de la Cruz are another attraction that is worth visiting. Of course, all these options are duly accompanied by an immense gastronomic offer.

Regarding the real estate market and the economic potentials of the city, Santa Cruz de Tenerife is the real engine of the Canary Islands. The commitment to the tourism sector allows it to generate close to 60% of local GDP, characterised by a wide diversification that goes beyond the sunshine and beach binomial. However, this boost in tourism has not distorted real estate prices, which remain at comparatively low levels compared to the rest of Spain. With less than 150,000 euros, it is possible to buy a 70 sqm flat near the city centre. A more exclusive offer is a 180 sqm property worth 300,000 euros in San Juan Street.

To summarise, Santa Cruz de Tenerife isn't just the largest and most visited port city in the Canary Islands. It is a very complete place to live in and get addicted to the excitement that seems inherent to the island.
