Tiny homes, the new trend of living in properties of less than 40 sqm

Not too long ago, the idea of building residential properties that had an area of less than 40 square metres was considered to be ridiculous. However, as time has passed, this perspective has changed dramatically and, within the real estate sector today, it can be said that this type of home is in fashion. What's more, the demand for such property doesn't seem to stop.

40 square metre homes, also known throughout the world as ' tiny homes', are perfect for living in without any difficulty. Some people find these homes very interesting and want to take advantage of their low purchase prices and lower energy consumption as compared to other types of properties.

There is also another factor that characterises this type of home. In most cases, theses ' tiny houses' are prefabricated, which makes their prices approximately the same as a new car. This entails another series of additional advantages. On the one hand, every square metre is taken advantage of, thus making these homes extremely functional. On the other, they can be dismantled and transported so those who opt to live in such homes won't have a fixed address.

We should not forget that these small houses are customisable and much more environmentally friendly than the conventional ones. In fact, practically anyone can afford to buy these homes. In addition, in order to make up for the lack of space, the specialist builders often use materials of the highest quality based on bio-climatic designs that favour an extremely high degree of energy efficiency. So much so that many of these homes are self-sufficient.

To get a better idea, the price per square metre for one of these small homes is around 1000 euros. However, there are smaller and perfectly equipped properties that are also available. It is currently possible to find a tiny house with 27 square metres of space equipped with a separate bedroom, a bathroom and a living room with kitchen for 21,900 euros.

It is true that based on the data provided by top sources in the real estate industry, the taste for these mini houses in Spain is lower than in other European countries such as the United Kingdom or Sweden. However, more and more people are now opting for them, especially as a second home. In fact, once they are purchased, they are transported to an empty plot of land that's owned by the owner so that he or she can spend their weekends or holidays in this home with their family or partner.
