A Historic Golf Course with a Modern Touch

La Marquesa Golf is considered one of the most historic courses on the Costa Blanca. Founded and designed by Justo Quesada in 1989, it was originally called Club de Golf Quesada, before the name changed to La Marquesa Golf back in 1994. Today, it still remains one of the most notable golf courses in Costa Blanca. In fact, one of its long-standing members is Miguel Ángel Jiménez, a professional Spanish golfer and winner of 21 European Tour Cups.

Where is La Marquesa located?

La Marquesa Golf is situated in the village of Rojales, west of Guardamar del Segura in the coastal district of Costa Blanca. It is only a few kilometers from the large salt lake of La Mata, near the city of Torrevieja.

What is the golf course like?

La Marquesa is an 18-hole, par 72 golf course. On May of 2019, the course underwent extensive remodeling under renowned designer Pascual Jiménez. The project reconstructed and redesigned 9 new greens and 4 fairways. The result was a one-of-a-kind variety of holes, each with their own set of challenges to conquer. Each of these holes has a name which corresponds to a distinct trait or feature: examples are “The Geyser”, “The Wall” and “The Piano”, among many others.

While each of the holes re presents a different challenge and feature, the jewel of La Marquesa is its 16th hole: Sawgrass. Famous golf courses from all over the world have a Sawgrass hole, which is characterized by a peninsular green, with the hole located at the center of the “island” built within a large lake. It is known as “the most mythical hole” in the world of golf, and players can enjoy this challenge at Hole 16 of La Marquesa.

What golf amenities does La Marquesa offer?

Buggies: Though the golf course can be traversed without a buggy, golfers can choose to hire one for the day. While the buggies don’t have GPS-guided navigational systems and screens, it is fairly easy to travel across the course, and the paths are properly signed for golfers to know where the next holes are.

Trolleys: Mechanical and electric trolleys are available for rent. Golfers who prefer to walk are recommended to rent the electric ones for easy handling.

Clubs: Players can rent top-brand golf clubs to use during their rounds.

Pro Shop: The Pro Shop at La Marquesa offers a wide array of golf items and equipment, including clubs from top brands such as Titleist, Callaway, Cleveland and Taylor Made, among others.

Repair Shop: Those experiencing problems with their golf equipment, like buggies and trolleys, can visit La Marquesa Golf’s repair shop to have the items fixed, or just bring them in for maintenance.

What practice facilities are at La Marquesa?

Driving Range: La Marquesa features a partially covered driving range, where golfers—amateurs and professionals alike can practice. This is especially useful for the students of La Marquesa’s golf school.

Practice Bunkers: These are smaller versions of bunkers, where golfers can practice their sand shots.

Golf School: La Marquesa Golf offers courses for adults in three levels: Initiation, Improvement and Advanced. The classes last for an hour once a week, and each class consists of 4-6 students.

INITIATION: Students who have not received any classes and have not acquired their golf license yet belong to the Initiation group. They will be taught all the basics of the game, including different types of strokes, and the rules of etiquette.

IMPROVEMENT: Students who already have their golf license belong to this group. They will be trained to improve their swing movement in order to achieve more solid and regular strokes in all areas of the game.

ADVANCED: This group is made up of players who regularly play and compete. Private classes are usually recommended for those who belong here, in order to speed up their progress in training.

What are the Clubhouse amenities?

La Marquesa Golf Clubhouse has a restaurant and café, with a poolside bar and dining area. The restaurant serves a variety of Spanish and international cuisine—with the favorite being the rib-eye steak with a side of vegetables. There is a large pool and a children’s swimming pool, perfect for a refreshing dip for the whole family.

Are visitors allowed to eat at the Clubhouse restaurant?

Yes, outside visitors and guests may dine in the Clubhouse, and may also use the pool for a fee.
