15 rincones para descubrir Valencia

Anyone who is interested in Valencia knows all about the City of Arts and Sciences, the Quart Towers or the Central Market. However, beyond these symbolic sites, there are many other places that are worth visiting. Here we are going to talk about the 15 most interesting ones.

1. The Plaza del Arzobisco

Located in La Seu, this small Arab inspired plaza is surrounded by orange trees in which the sound of trickling water is especially striking. What's more, this plaza is usually very quiet and peaceful.

2. The Gardens of Monforte

A haven of peace and tranquility in the middle of the hustle and bustle of the university. It was created in the 19th century and has a neoclassical style, which makes it possible to find countless ponds, a pavilion for resting and several marble statues.

3. Colón Market

A project designed in 1914 by Francisco de Mora and Berenguer, however it did not enjoy its current splendour until 2003. Without doubt, it is one of the most symbolic modernist buildings in Valencia and rightfully considered as a national monument.

4. Cabecera Park

This is a metropolitan site that has masterfully recreated the original landscapes of Turia River. The greenery, narrow and quiet roads, an outdoor auditorium, children's playground, a jetty, a bar and, above all, the Molí del Sol are its main charms.

5. La Albufera

La Albufera is probably the most beautiful natural site in Valencia. However, we suggest that you don't just take a stroll through it as you can also watch the sunset by taking a boat ride.

6. The Botanical Garden

Its origin dates back to the sixteenth century, although it wasn't originally a botanical garden until the 18th century. It has countless collections of exotic plants.

7. Redonda Plaza

This is one of the most unique and picturesque corners of Valencia. Located in the heart of the city, it has a traditional market with all kinds of stalls and shops, from handcrafts to hairdressers.

8. Malvarrosa

This beach has 100 metres of fine sand and calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea. If you are familiar with Sorolla's work, you will enjoy it even more at any time of the year.

9. Ruzafa Market

This matket is the largest in the city of Valencia thanks to its 600 stalls. However, if you go there, do not just focus on shopping and let yourself be impressed by its murals.

10. The Church of San Valero

Right next to the Ruzafa Market is this small church and the Convent of Our Lady of the Angels; sites that deserve a visit for their uniqueness.

11. The Lonja de la Seda

A gothic style civil masterpiece that was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1996.

12. The Marqués of Dos Aguas Palace

This is one of the most interesting buildings in the city thanks, to a large extent, to the virgin that presides over its façade, through which the Turia and the Júcar descend, and because it houses an imposing courtyard and towers.

13. Plaza de la Virgen and de la Reina

We have to mention the two busiest squares (plazas) in the city where a good part of leisure and nightlife offer are concentrated in.

14. Norte Station

This is not just a railway station, but one of the most interesting modernist monuments in Valencia.

15. Valldigna Gate

Located in the neighbourhood of Carmen, this gateway was responsible for separating the Christians from the Muslims within the city. But the interesting fact is that Valldigna Gate has no door!
