Extramurs: A unique neighbourhood with history

Extramurs is the name of one of the most important areas of Valencia. There are four different neighbourhoods in this district: the district of La Pexina, Arrancapins, the well-known neighbourhood of La Roqueta, and the famous Botánic.

The revival of a historic district

 



Extramurs was reborn in Valencia along its walls and history, with impressive architecture, monuments and buildings that are already the authentic symbols of the city. The cultural and historical past come together with what the third capital of Spain can offer in the 21st century.



Extramurs is a residential neighbourhood. Half of its homes were built between 1900 and 1960.


What can we find in Extramurs?

In this district there are very important treasures, as is the case of Finca Roja, one of the emblems of the architecture of the city. Built between 1929 and 1934 by the great architect, Enrique Viedma, this well-known residential complex, with 378 houses, has recently been renovated.


Among the wide variety of services that are offered in Extramurs, it is necessary to include the sports centres and schools. As for the educational centres, the Jesuits, Jesús and María and Escolapias are the schools with the greatest historical tradition.

In Extramurs there are many places of interest for the traveller, the tourist, or just about anyone who is interested in tradition and culture. The ones that stand out the most are:

- Las Torres de Quart is one of the gates of the medieval wall to the city.

- Botanical Garden of the University of Valencia. Inside this building, there are more than three thousand different species of animals and plants.

- The Norte Station was Valencia's first railway station built in 1851.

Urban space with dynamism

Among the great projects that have been carried out in Valencia in recent times, the sports centres that are located in the old abattoir and Abastos stand out from the rest. With a great historical tradition, these sports facilities have been renovated and adapted to the future needs of the city.

The high speed ​​train station has become the crown of Valencia city. Joaquín Sorolla Station, which has brought modernity in terms of transport links to this district, will generate all kinds of opportunities for growth, investment as well as urban and hotel development.
