6 frequently asked questions in a job interview

Job interviews are one of the most feared and at the same time habitual procedures faced by any candidate. It goes without saying that the interview preparation must be done in advance in order to be ready for any complex issue that arises. Nonetheless, there are a number of questions that can be asked in interviews. Pay attention to the following questions and possible answers.

How would you define yourself? A simple question that's difficult to answer. The important thing is not to state what a divine human being you are, and instead, highlight all those personal qualities (including hobbies and talents) that reinforce your profile as a candidate. It is not a general question as it seems.

How (or where) do you see yourself in five years?
Be ambitious but realistic, making it clear that your future career lies in the company in which you want to be hired. It is legitimate to want to move on to other companies but what will make you earn points is to show commitment to the firm that is interviewing you.

Why do you want to change jobs? If you have left a previous position to enter a new company you may be questioned about the reasons that led you to take this step. Highlight the prestige or possibilities of your future destination but without giving the impression that you would make this decision in your company. Likewise, it is not advisable to emphasise negative aspects of the previous employment or company.

What are your salary expectations?
It may not be a question as frequently asked as the previous ones but it is a quick way of knowing if it will be possible to reach a salary agreement. Do not forget that you are not in a negotiating position so you can not come up with a very demanding offer and then go over that figure. The most sensible thing is to try to make the interviewer mention the first figure (without forcing the situation). If it were necessary to mention a quantity, it must fit the sector's salary brackets.

What is your main strength and weakness?
Your interviewer is fully aware that you are not perfect. Do not fall into the mistake of highlighting too many skills. Focus on those that can help you more effectively fulfill the tasks in your future job. As for the weaknesses, combine sincerity and insight, making it clear that you are working on improving them.

Why should we give you the job?
With absolute serenity, make sure you present the profile that the company is looking for. Without unnecessary exaggerations, be a solvent professional who understands the demands of the job and knows how to respond.
