July Fair in Valencia

Valencia's July Fair, also known as Gran Fira de Valencia or Gran Feria de Valencia (Great Fair of Valencia), is one of the most important events that takes place every summer in the city of Valencia. In addition, it is one of the oldest traditions in Spain and, in particular, its origins date back to 1871, at which time the City Council began holding a summer festival that would attract visitors to the town and, incidentally, encourage the residents to remain in the country during the hot summer months.

Specifically, the 145th edition of the Valencia July Fair will take place between 2nd and 30th July of this month and will consist of a variety of activities. Among them, the most prominent one is, without doubt, the Paseo de la Alameda's Battle of Flowers. We must not however forget the fun food tasting at the street markets that attracts all kinds of people.

The Fireworks Festival, which fills the air with colours and sounds this month, will be held this year with a total of 6 firework shows. In addition, it is free of charge, so anyone can enjoy it. Furthermore, there will be a number of interesting concerts held in Jardines de Viveros. In fact, many soloists and music bands will take to the stage including Anastacia, Chambao, Los Suaves, Aspencat and Gloria Gaynor.

On the other hand, the Gran Nit de Juliol (the great night of July) is the night of celebration that continues until early hours of morning. Most museums open their doors during the night and stay open until dawn. What's more, the streets will be full of concerts, parades, medieval markets and, in bars, there will be lots of partying. Meanwhile, the last Sunday in July the fair will finish off with the Paseo de la Alameda's Battle of Flowers as a grand finale, which is its 125th anniversary and promises to leave the city streets covered with a beautiful blanket of carnations. During this fair, the city of Valencia will vibrate to the sound of rock music and smells of flowers.

As you will have noted, during the month of July, Valencia offers much more than just sun and sand. In fact, this is one of the months in which you can truly experience the traditional atmosphere that breathes through its streets.
