The Quintos route in Valencia

Valencia has the reputation of being a city that offers many recreational possibilities to young people without having to spend much money. In fact, the regional newspaper Las Provincias came to talk about the phenomenon 'antibotellon' due to the large number of affordable local places that you can go with friends. One of the articles points to the 'quintos' route, which is an important part of the Valencia city bars.

The 'quintos' route in the capital of Turia refers to all those bars that have attractive offers for racks of beer bottles (popularly known as fifth). These establishments have the uniqueness of being positioned in the surrounding streets towards Vicente Blasco Ibáñez Avenue, which are also close to some of the main university campuses (Geography and History, Medicine, Philology ...). Thus, in the evening, there are hundreds of young people starting to appear in the area, especially during the academic year.

At the nerve centre of this route, El Castillo bar is found. This is a kind of Mecca for Valencia University in Menéndez Pelayo Street. The well-known slogan of this bar includes 'Three-fifths, one euro', which is an offer that has been copied by the rest of the bars in this area. From the menu, you can find a wide range of complementary offers that accompany the drinks, either in jars, or combined with tapas or snacks. Occasionally, El Castillo bar works with clubs and pubs to offer their customers tickets as part of festive menus.

It is not easy to come up with a recommendation as to which route is the best, but your next mandatory stop should be at Phenomenon, which is also located in Menéndez Pelayo Street. Here, we find ourselves popular offers just like the last bar but with a difference. This place combines the atmosphere of a traditional brewery with a pub and stays open until 2am. This bar also hosts many live music concerts.

Slightly more sophisticated than the previous bars, Azahar is a bar that follows the classic pattern of such establishments but adds to the fever of quintos, which is also on Menéndez Pelayo Street. It has the advantage of having regular happy-hour offers and stays open until late at night. To conclude, we turn to another corner of the city toward Cronista Alameda Street to discover La Piedra de al Lado. This is an establishment close to the Valencian university that has been added to the 'quintos' route.
