Restaurants with history in Valencia

The benefits of Valencian cuisine, one of the most authentic examples of Mediterranean cuisine, are well known. Valencia is home to many different catering establishments that have been referred to as the great food temples of the city. Some of these establishments have a long history in servicing the most demanding diners and exploring them is a tourist experience that captivates the five senses.

Our first stop is a restaurant specialised in rice and seafood, La Pepica. Located in the privileged Paseo de Neptuno, a few metres from Malvarrosa Beach, La Pepica even has a rice named after the place. It also offers a large dining hall where the windows guarantee a continuous flow of natural light. Boasting 120 years of history, the restaurant is a valued institution among the Valencian rice shops.

We do not need to go very far as the next stopping point is Casa Carmela, also located in front of Malvarrosa Beach. Rice and fresh seafood dishes have taken over the kitchen of the restaurant that has enjoyed better reviews than some of the other similar eateries. The personal service, the relaxed atmosphere in the dining hall and the generous food portions are its most outstanding aspects. By the way, the place has TV screens that let you watch live the preparation of paellas by its chefs.

We change our route for the third restaurant and head towads the inner part of the city in Avenida del Reino de Valencia. This is where Los Madriles tavern, one of the most sophisticated eateries in the Valencian capital, can be found with its doors open to all. In spite of its vast history, the business premises underwent a remarkable renovation in 2012 and as a result, it has earned the support of its loyal customers. This place is perfect for drinking cocktails all night and getting together with your friends.

Are you a fan of snacks? Keep in mind that Valencia has a lunch tradition in one of its most important plazas. So if you love snacks, La Pérgola stands out for its varied menu in such an exceptional setting as Paseo de la Alameda. The place also opens its doors (or its terrace, rather) for lunch or dinner. In addition, it is the nerve centre within the city.
