The best of each district in Valencia: Extramurs

Extramurs is the name given to one of the districts of Valencia, specifically the district 3. Its name refers to the fact that it was built as an extension of the old town, just outside the city walls. Bordering the east of Ciutat Vella and Eixample, north of Campanar, to the west of Patraix and L'Olivereta, and south of Jesús, this district composes of four neighbourhoods: La Roqueta, La Petxina, Arrancapins and Botànic. Bordered by Guillen de Castro, train tracks, Pérez Galdós Avenue and Antiguo River, today, Extramurs is transformed into the largest green area of Valencia.

When Valencia expanded through its ancient walls, it began to build landmark buildings and unique structures that changed the appearance of the city. One of its greatest architectural emblems is Finca Roja, with 378 apartments, it was built between 1929 and 1934 by the architect was Enrique Viedma and adopted by the Social Insurance Fund of the Kingdom of Valencia (Caja de Previsión Social del Reino de Valencia) for middle class people who worked in the factories that were outside the city. The name Finca Roja refers to the building's façade of red bricks.
