The best of each Valencia district: Pla del Real

The No. 6 district in Valencia is called Pla del Real (in Spanish, Llano del Real), a combination of exclusivity, family atmosphere and a typical working class neighbourhood.

Special features of the district

Although its name is misleading, it is important to note that in this case the term 'real' is not unrelated to royalty. It is true that the name of this district comes from what was at the time the palace of the Valencia kings. But the 'real' concept is a derivation of the Arabic word 'Riyad' which in Spanish means 'jardín'. In the Pla del Real we find Viveros Gardens, one of the largest parks of Valencia. Moreover, we can find sports facilities such as Horse Center or Valencia Tennis Club.

Squares and main streets

Squares and main streetsAragón Avenue and Primado Rey establish the eastern and northern boundary of the district, which cut through the south of Alameda. Although if we had to choose a single protagonist artery in the district this would certainly be the Blasco Ibáñez Avenue. This is where most businesses are located and traffic can soar at peak times. There is also a curious area in the district of Jaume Roig, which are the old houses of journalists, two rows of chalets in the middle of the city.

Restaurants in the area

Residents in this district (among the large community of university students, because this is where the Universidad de Valencia campus is) visit the two zones that are full of bars and restaurants.

There are perpendicular streets in and around Blasco Ibáñez Avenue and Aragón Avenue. In these streets, you will find the most traditional cafes as well as functional premises that are adapted to the needs (and budget) of students.

Shopping and business areas

As you take a walk around the neighbourhood, it won't be difficult to find small shops, food stores, and well-known supermarket chains will that cover your basic needs. But if you're seeking something special, look out for the number of pastry shops that populate these streets. Be careful your greed doesn't get the better of you though.

Bypassing the exclusive residential streets, Pla del Real district retains its essence and freshness that imbues university life.

Places to go with children

Sports centres, parks and gardens are part of this neighbourhood's landscape. Paseo de La Alameda is a great place to go for a walk with your children during the evenings and weekends.

The night is young in Pla del Real thanks to the presence of university students and its proximity to other popular party districts like Cedro. But also in the very heart of the district (Aragón Avenue and surrounding streets) there are numerous places to go for a drink, listen to live music or learn to dance salsa in Caribbean-themed settings.

This lively neighbourhood has grown considerably in recent years so that a high percentage of its buildings is of relatively recent construction.
