The most striking buildings in Valencia

Among many other attractions, the city of Valencia in Spain boasts an amazing architectural heritage that virtually spreads throughout everywhere in its surrounding districts. Whether through buildings that are made up of more suggestive designs, or isolated buildings that still hold a unique imprinted charm today.

In the city of Valencia, you can find many unique buildings that can be traced back to the Middle Ages from the most avant-garde buildings through to the deep imprint left in the modernist city without ignoring a series of nondescript buildings and street corners as peculiarity enhances most of their charms, assuming you are going to travel to the city of Valencia soon. Since the architectural variety surprises every tourist who comes to the city, reflecting the dynamism of the city of Valencia, as well as its present and past as one of the most important cities in the Mediterranean, the cradle of major industries and traders whose activities date back to ancient times.

Many centuries ago in the Medieval times, one of the most emblematic symbols of the city such as the Silk Exchange or the Merchants appeared. This was one of the best existing manifestations of Gothic, in addition to a religious architectural building bequeathed on a slope built by Pere Compte.

Another medieval architecture reminiscent that can be seen in the city includes the impressive towers of Quart and Serranos, which categorically demonstrates the importance that this type of construction had at the time, since they were assigned as surveillance, essential in maritime cities and therefore vulnerable to sea attacks from Barbary pirates during the events of the modern age.

As this is an area with a unique architectural charm, we must mention the entire cathedral complex, particularly emphasising the bell tower known as the Miguelete, a construction led by master Andreu Juliá dated from 1381 and which houses a strikingly large and unique looking bell. Finally, within the medieval buildings of the city of Valencia, there also highlights the Almudín, converted into a museum today from a primitive use as a fortress by the Muslims, and then re-built later as a granary by the Christians, who reformed the building using quality materials. At this present time, this building consists of a beautiful wooden deck and striking frescoes that populate the walls inside the structure.

This particular site was also home to the old Muslim souk, being located right in front of the Market of the Merchants, the Central Market is an interesting construction from the twentieth century, confirming one of the best examples of the many that exist in the modern city of Valencia, leaving particularly perplexed those who contemplate the odd-looking sloping roofs and domes. North Station, designed under similar stylistic guidelines as the Muslim market, the Red House, or Rialto building has also an undeniable magnetism, the latter being one of the best Art Deco style manifestations that exists in Spain.

Thus, we come to the great architectural symbols of the modern Valencia, a must-see for all the tourists who come from all over the world, such as works of Santiago Calatrava in the City of Arts and Sciences, emphasising in this regard visually attractive buildings such as Oceanogràfic, l'Hemisfèric, the Museum of Sciences Prince Felipe and especially the Palau de les Arts Reina Sofia, besides the Agora and the Calatrava bridge style designed by Assut de l'Or. Not to mention, of course, other icons of the city such as the Palacio de Congresos, one of the most important works of the architect Norman Foster, and the Veles e Vents building, conceived to mark the celebration of the America's Cup, the city obtained such prestigious awards as the architecture Mies Van der Rohe.

The city of Valencia in Spain is also able to offer visitors a very special area such as the Cabanyal neighbourhood with its picturesque seaside houses, while in the city, you can also find other lesser known architectural jewels as well as contemplation aura that arouses great interest, for example, the House of Dragons, modernist but extremely original inspiration that we can admire in the street Jorge Juan on the corner of Sorní, or Ferrer Building with shocking whitewashed walls of which can be seen Cirilo Amoros street, or the so-called 'Jewish home', never indifferent to the beholder.
